Dear Brothers,

We are happy to inform you that the Ananda Grounds Development project - stage one(1) is nearing completion, As you are aware the standard of sports in Ananda has deteriorated in the recent past. This made it necessary for all of us to get together and launch a vast development project to help sports.

A meeting was held with the Principal on an initiative taken by the Old Anandians to discuss and to take remedial measures. Here it was revealed that the school was receiving only about 30% of the total financial requirement for sports at Ananda which made it necessary to look for other avenues to collect funds.

We made an appeal to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to assist us in view of the contribution to Cricket by Ananda in producing over 25 national cricket players. The officials were kind enough to make an inspection tour and the result was that they agreed to contribute Rs. 6.5 million towards the Cricket grounds development project.

However our objective was to improve all sports at Ananda and therefore the development project was planned to include developing other sports as well.

Apart from the SLC we are pleased to record that the Old Anandians sports club, OBA Branch in Australia , The School development Society and the OASC Cricket Wing have generously contributed to the project. We are informed that the Old Boys Association (OBA) and Old Boys association in UK too has initiated a program to raise funds for this project.

The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 35 million

Expenditure of the work completed so far Rs. 12 million

The deficit of Rs. 23 million has to be collected to complete the 2nd and the 3rd stages of the project.

After completing the 1st stage we are planning to allow the school children to use the grounds for sports activities by early June 2008.
